Ink Rub Tester
Test Materials
This tester evaluates inks and coatings on container board, corrugated board, paper, cartons, plastic films, labels, and printed packaging materials. Both printed and unprinted samples can be tested.
Test Process
The RT-01 Ink Rub Tester uses a motor-driven arm to move a weighted specimen over the sample surface in a 57 mm arc, simulating rubbing or scuffing. Tests include dry rub, wet rub, wet bleed, wet smear, heated rub, and functional rub. Test speed (20-120 cpm) and pressure (2 lb or 4 lb weights) are adjustable to replicate various conditions.
Test Result Interpretation
Test results reveal ink resistance to wear, surface strength, smearing, bleeding, heat resistance, and adhesion. Strong performance indicates durable inks and substrates, while poor results suggest formulation or process improvements are needed.
Related Standards
Tests follow ASTM D5264, TAPPI T830, ASTM F1571, FINAT FTM 27, ASTM F2497, and JIS K 5701 standards, ensuring reliable, industry-recognized evaluation.
